Military aviation photography,
a lifelong passion

My name is Simone Marulli, and you could say I was born with a camera in my hands.

My passion for photography began when I was a child. I grew up when cameras were still analog, and I had the privilege of witnessing the transition to digital photography. Then in 2003 I bought my first camera and started taking photographs.
Since my other deepest passion is airplanes, it was only natural that my preferred subject for photography would be them: military airplanes, specifically fighter Jets. It is a subject that continues to inspire me every day since then.

In 2007 I joined an aviation club,  and through this, I have toured various military bases in Italy and abroad. Every year, I attend the major airshows across Europe.

For me, photography is more than just a hobby—it’s an art form.

Photography as art

Passion, patience, personality, and professional equipment.

Capturing the perfect shot requires intuition, timing, and experience, as well as a little luck.

The moment a plane “aligns” horizontally in a photographer’s frame lasts only a blink of an eye. But the process doesn’t end there, post-production is equally critical.
My expertise in color theory and lighting helps me enhance the photograph, highlighting its natural beauty. The result? A moment in flight, frozen in time. A split second that reveals the perfect aerodynamics of an aircraft.

For me, every photograph is a thoughtfully crafted piece of art, designed to showcase the beauty that lies in the skies — for those who know how to see it.

Aviation: a Lifelong Passion
When I was 12yo, I went crazy over a pc flight simulator called "Strike Commander".
I saved up my pocket money for an entire year and cycled 20 km to buy it on the day it was released. I didn’t even own a computer to play it that would arrive a year later, however, I would have plenty of time to read the manual and prepare for it.

Photography and 3D: a perfect union

My career in the 3D field began in 1998, and over the past 25 years, I have continuously pursued learning. My thirst for knowledge continues, and I have always sought to explore and study to deepen my understanding and achieve more.

As the director of a major 3D visualization studio, marulli.it, I have developed an in-depth understanding of lighting, color theory, and composition.

These interconnected skills allow me to operate at the highest level. Additionally, photography perfectly complements my work, as my 25 years of technical experience in post-production enable me to bring out the best in every shot.

What does it mean to be a
professional?

Take a look at my gear
I believe a professional is defined not only by skill but also by the quality of their tools. My equipment is second to none: I own three camera bodies, the largest lenses on the market, and I carry 20 kg of gear when I head out. I’m loyal to Sony because their unparalleled camera quality allows me to capture aircraft in truly artistic ways.
